The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs has called on Somalia to fight for climate justice.
Joyce Msuya, who also doubles as the Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, issued this call on Tuesday.
She was providing a bit of feedback on her most recent trip to Somalia.
While responding to comments by Martin Griffiths, who is her boss, Msuya said that her trip to Somalia a few days ago was a real eye-opener.
“People who contribute the least suffer the most from climate crisis in Somalia,” said Msuya.
She added that Somalia is primed to experience the worst from climate change, just like the rest of the world.
In this regard, she called the fight for criminal justice as the best strategy that Somalia could ever engage in to rectify the situation.
