The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) declared that the wetter-than-normal rains from March to May in the Horn of Africa will be good for food security in the region.
WMO, through the Intergovernmental Authority on Development Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), says the rains will improve food security substantially.
However, it issued a caveat in the update regarding the upcoming rains.
According to the organization, residents of the Horn of Africa have to take precautions as the heavy rains are expected to cause flooding too.
Late last year, nations such as Somalia and others in the region experienced heavy flooding as El Nino rains caused rivers to burst their banks.
This led to heavy damages to farmlands. Crops of unknown value were destroyed while hundreds of people died. Eventually, the rains were not good for agriculture as they should have been.
