Somalia’s Ministry of Ports and Maritime Transport has joined forces with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to ban the importation of single-use plastic bags.
The ports ministry issued a press release declaring that importation of single-use plastic bags is now officially banned.
This collaborative effort aims to combat environmental pollution, particularly in coastal areas, which are vulnerable to plastic waste.
By banning these bags, Somalia is taking a significant step toward reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainable practices in line with global environmental standards.
The move reflects growing concerns over the impact of plastic waste on marine life, local ecosystems, and public health.
