Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Said Mohamed, officially opened the second session of Science, Technology & Innovation Day at the Somalia Pavilion during the 16th session of the Conference of Parties of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), otherwise known as #COP16Riyadh.

The session highlighted the critical role of science and technology in ecosystem restoration, emphasizing key approaches such as reforestation, natural recovery, and the integration of cutting-edge research.

These efforts aim to address pressing issues like land degradation and broader environmental challenges faced by Somalia and the region.

This initiative reflects Somalia’s active engagement in global climate action and its dedication to sustainable solutions for environmental resilience.

Several senior Somali government officials, including Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, who is the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, have been at COP16, which runs from December 2-13 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
