Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi has called upon Somali journalists to fight for environmental justice in the country.

Al-Makhzoumi, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, made this call as the country joined the rest of the world in celebrating the World Press Freedom Day.

She issued the call while launching the World Press Freedom Day Symposium on Friday, May 3.

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) organized the symposium with the support of the United States Embassy in Mogadishu.

In her address, Al-Makhzoumi stated that Somali journalists play an “indispensable role” in promoting environmental justice and other related issues in the country.

She added that journalists need press freedom to play their roles effectively.
