At the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) chief, Mahaamud Moalim, emphasized the urgent requirement for robust early warning systems across East Africa.

In his Thursday address, Moallim highlighted the critical risks posed by La Niña-related droughts, stressing that without timely alerts, communities remain vulnerable to severe climate challenges.

Moalim’s call reflects a broader need for preparedness and regional collaboration to mitigate climate impacts in a region increasingly affected by unpredictable weather patterns.
