Somalia is currently celebrating the historic signing of an agreement with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) last week.
The successful signing of FP246, focused on Climate Resilient Agriculture (Ugbaad), underlines Somalia’s commitment to tackling climate vulnerability.
Led by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, the celebrations focus on the fact that the deal focuses on the agricultural sector, which is crucial for both livelihoods and food security.
With support from the GCF and the leadership of Mafalda Duarte, the Executive Director at GCF, this initiative can play a transformative role in building resilience against climate change impacts.
Al-Makhzoumi and the National Development Agency (NDA) have taken an essential step forward in securing climate finance, which can directly benefit vulnerable communities across Somalia.
