Somalia recently launched a three-day campaign focused on banning single-use plastic bags. This initiative aims to tackle the growing environmental and health concerns caused by plastic waste.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change Khadija Mohamed Al Makhzoumi launched the 3-day campaign last week on Monday with a call for Somalis to take measures that will protect the environment for the future generations.

She urged all Somalis and non-Somalis in the country to contribute to the success of the campaign.

By banning single-use plastic bags, the campaign seeks to reduce pollution, protect marine life, and promote sustainable practices within the community.

The campaign includes various activities such as public awareness programs, educational workshops, and clean-up drives. These efforts are geared towards educating the public on the harmful effects of plastic pollution and encouraging the use of eco-friendly alternatives.

The government’s decision to implement this ban reflects a commitment to environmental conservation and aligns with global efforts to combat plastic pollution.
