Somalia’s Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzumi, highlighted the urgent need to restructure the global financial system to better assist climate-vulnerable nations at a major meeting.

She emphasized the importance of the Green Climate Fund as a crucial source of financial support, advocating for increased investments and reforms to make climate finance more accessible and impactful.

Al-Makhzumi called on global leaders to prioritize climate resilience and adaptation, particularly for countries like Somalia that face severe climate challenges, including droughts and food insecurity.

Her address, at the COP29 Summit underway in Baku, underscores Somalia’s commitment to global climate action and sustainable development.
