Somalia plans to hold the World Environment Day celebrations in the regional state of Galmudug.

Globally, the World Environment Day is commemorated on June 5.

The federal Ministry of Environment and Climate Change confirmed that Galmudug would host this year’s event.

The day is set aside for raising global awareness on the need for protecting the environment and caring for it.

It’s importance is cemented by the growing challenges brought about by climate change.

The theme for this year’s event is “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.”

Galmudug will get the chance to showcase the progress it has made in this regard.

Eleven cities and districts in Galmudug will host various events to commemorate the day.
